Homeland Security

Jim VanBendegom, PEM - Emergency Manager

Homeland Security is increasingly taking the lead for local government as well as the lead to work with the private sector to help defend privately owned and operated networks, particularly as they affect our critical civil infrastructure ... According to Jim, “Our success will depend in no small part on our ability to interact effectively and efficiently with the private sector and local governing agencies. The most effective homeland security starts at home at the local level and the key is to be prepared...”

Jim understands that law enforcement and security officials take all the necessary steps to ensure our safety and it's important to stay apprised of the latest information. As a retired Kent County sheriff's deputy with over 25 years experience, including Kent County's past Emergency Management Coordinator, Jim has a unique, practical and hands-on approach when it comes to matters of homeland security. Jim is president of the Michigan Crisis Response Association and past president of the Michigan Emergency Management Association.

His hobbies include photography, camping, volunteering and traveling.
