Wastewater System Improvements, South Whitley, IndianaBack

The Town of South Whitley is a combined sewer community with approximately 75% of the wastewater collection system directly transporting both sanitary and stormwater flows.

In response to EPA and IDEM regulations, F&V assisted the Town in the development and approval of a Long Term Control Plan that was approved by IDEM at the end of 2006. This control plan was a master utility plan for the stormwater and wastewater collection system with additional plan components (for CSO control) required by IDEM. The entire stormwater (combined) system was modeled using a dynamic computer modeling software called XP-SWMM. This software evaluates stormwater drainage system in real-time and not the static-state approach frequently used for conventional drainage system evaluation.

We are currently in the design stage of the stormwater improvements (anticipated construction cost of approximately $1 million) and the preliminary design of wastewater treatment plant improvements (headworks and CSO treatment).
