Projects
Red Cedar River Rapids, Ingham County, MI
Planning and design services for the creation of Class I (novice level) Rapids in the Red Cedar River within the city and a non-motorized/recreational pathway in the form of a boardwalk connecting key points of interest in the area.
The rapids were designed specifically to accommodate the dam that had been breached for several years and to allow fish to travel up stream. The boardwalk/pathway was integrated and designed to provide non-motorized travel and recreation to this "rapids" area, to the commercial area near the Red Cedar Rapids and a sidewalk was created to link the Rapids to nearby Deer Creek Park.
The project involved removal of contaminated soils and the breached dam and creation of a pond and rapids, which allows the passage of freshwater fish, back up stream, following a 150-year hiatus.
