ADA Ramp Upgrades and Inspection

Town of Converse
Converse, IN

Project Overview

F&V designed and provided construction inspection for ADA ramp upgrades for the intersections along Jefferson Street through the historic downtown.

The design included new ADA ramps at every intersection and two blocks of new sidewalk. F&V found all of the plats and legal descriptions INDOT required to verify the Town’s right-of-way. The design worked around existing obstructions and still kept all of the ADA ramps and sidewalks within the existing right-of-way.

F&V was able to provide a Minor Projects Programmatic Agreement (MPPA) environmental document approval for the town. This is the lowest form of environmental review and approval. By utilizing an MPPA, F&V saved the town tens of thousands of dollars in engineering fees and months in environmental review approval.

Drainage concerns were also added to the project to address historic drainage problems at certain intersections. One section of sidewalk was rerouted from one railroad crossing to another to prevent potential delays from the railroad.

The project was submitted to INDOT early for review and approval. This allowed the project to be moved four months ahead of schedule when additional money came available from INDOT.
