Downtown Development Authority

The Village of Spring Lake, once a lumber capital, is known today as a tourist destination with its seven miles of ‘smiling nature.’ However, downtown hasn’t always been as smiley as the Village’s Downtown Development Authority (DDA) would have liked – the business community suffered from aging designs and deteriorating buildings.

The DDA decided to turn that frown upside down, hiring F&V to apply for and secure funding through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). The DDA used the grant as an incentive for businesses to invest in façade improvements.

Several businesses have already taken advantage of the grant and made improvements to the building fronts. F&V also assisted French Academy of Cosmetology and Dollar General with their design and construction phases.
