Lakeside Parks and Recreation

Mullett Township
Mullett Township, MI

Project Overview

Mullett Township officials were getting minimal use from a small, rustic park with little beachfront that abutted the North Central State Trail on Mullett Lake near the historic depot in Topinabee. The amenities were few at the park, which had long-standing erosion issues and wasn’t very accessible.

F&V helped the township with a five-year parks and recreation master plan and helped secure a MDNRE – Recreational Funds (MNRTF) – grant that funded a park improvement project. F&V also provided site engineering and landscape design services. Work included a playground area with ADA universal accessible paths to the water’s edge, beach improvements, viewing platforms, signage, shoreline stabilization including a new retaining wall, and a sprinkler system including underground electrical work.

The park’s erosion concerns were mitigated and it became universally-accessible. The Tip-of-the-Mitt tourist community not only got a new family attraction and destination, it had a big, clean beach that it never had before.
