Traffic and Pedestrian Signals

City of Grand Blanc
Grand Blanc, MI

Project Overview

The busiest intersection in the heart of downtown Grand Blanc was also home to the community’s biggest eyesore for more than a decade. But visioning for the downtown area changed the intersection of Saginaw Street and Grand Blanc Road, where an abandoned, boarded up gas station once sat. New traffic signals with mast arms have shed new light on the redevelopment of the brownfield site, which is now a vibrant commercial development.

F&V teamed with Tetra Tech to provide design and construction engineering for the new traffic and pedestrian signals and sidewalk ramp upgrades to complement the fourth leg that was added to this intersection as part of the redevelopment project. The existing diagonal span display was also replaced with mast arms, complete with LED signals and illuminated street signs. The mast arms and posts were coated green to match the previously completed traffic signals to the west along Grand Blanc Road at the Davis Street intersection.

The signal placement on the previous diagonal span would have been very difficult to see from the newly added drive providing ingress and egress to the commercial development. The new mast arms improved motorist visibility and safety as the new signals are easily seen from all directions.
