For nearly 30 years, F&V’s environmental engineering services have helped clients with common sense solutions to complicated problems.
Environmental engineering is a branch of civil engineering that focuses on protecting people and the natural environment from adverse environmental effects, such as pollution and contamination, and works towards improving environmental quality of life.
Engineering Solutions to Environmental Problems
Environmental investigation and remediation of contaminated sites, one of the most common environmental engineering services F&V offers, can be a daunting challenge to communities, industries, and commercial businesses. F&V’s engineers, scientists, geologists, and technicians investigate and remediate contaminated sites to protect and restore the environment.
F&V’s multi-disciplinary team provides common sense solutions to complicated environmental problems. Our approach utilizes technologically sound, cost-effective solutions. We assess and offer innovative solutions on investigating and remediating environmental challenges. We also assist clients with reviewing the environmental impact future projects may have on their communities and provide them with best-choice alternatives. We strive to provide responsive, consistent service while delivering a quality product that is complete, on time, and within budget.
Other environmental engineering services we offer include:
Brownfield Redevelopment is the process of revitalizing properties into community assets. Transforming contaminated, blighted, or functionally obsolete properties into new development projects leads to new investments and jobs, and a more beautiful community.
Environmental Property Assessment
Environmental property assessment is the act of providing an integrated approach to minimizing business risks when purchasing potentially liable and/or contaminated property. As the first step in most public projects, we perform condition evaluations of the building structure. We also review the structural, mechanical, electrical, building, and site conditions. We assess zoning restrictions and historical factors that might limit renovations or expansions. Our staff has experience in site plan approval, construction management, building codes, barrier free access, and energy use evaluations.
F&V offers hydrogeological services aimed at protecting businesses’ and communities’ groundwater supplies. Our approach is to maintain a thorough understanding of water resources and current state and federal regulations regarding their use, safety, and sustainability to test and protect water sources.
Industrial Stormwater Management
F&V assists companies in determining if an industrial stormwater management permit is required. We also provide certified operators who supervise and inspect the stormwater treatment and control measures including doing visual assessments and collecting and evaluating samples.
PFAS, also known perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are harmful chemicals found in public and private water supplies, wastewater treatment plants, landfills, and manufacturing sites. F&V has been at the forefront of PFAS investigations, working with the Michigan Department of Environment Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), on PFAS sampling, detection, and clean-up efforts.
Aboveground and Underground Storage Tank Removal
Above ground (ASTs) and underground (USTs) are structures used to store liquid, gas, and/or granular materials used for storage in the manufacturing, petroleum, and food industries. Most ASTs and USTs are regulated by state and federal agencies as they are commonly associated with hazardous materials such as gas, diesel, and fuels that can be harmful to human and biologically health. Special engineering controls are used during the construction, use, and removal of these structures. If or when a material has leaked from these structures, F&V can provide the management and technical resources to clean up the contamination.
F&V is a Qualified Consultant (QC) to work on leaking underground storage tank (UST) sites. Our staff includes professional geologists and certified professionals with experience in all phases of UST and AST work, including Risk Based Corrective Action (RBCA), tank removal oversight, site assessment, soil removal, feasibility, design, remedial system installation, remediation management activities, and site closure.
Groundwater Discharge Permitting
Facilities that discharge wastewater into or onto the ground are required by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) to have a groundwater discharge permit. F&V assists companies in determining if a Part 22 groundwater discharge permit is required at their project site.
Hazardous / Contaminated Materials Management
F&V routinely manages all types of hazardous and non-hazardous material and waste including: universal waste; liquid industrial waste; hazardous waste (including RCRA, TSCA and NEHAPs) for a variety of project types, such as: environmental investigations and remediation; brownfield demolition and asbestos abatement; UST/AST closures. Work is conducted in accordance with applicable State (Part 115, MDOT) and Federal (RCRA, TSCA, NESHAP) regulations.
Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Environmental Assessments
F&V staff has experience conducting environmental assessments on HUD funded programs. F&V has also conducted environmental assessments and environmental impact statements for federally funded projects that are very similar to HUD assessment requirements.
Underwater Dive Services
Underwater dive services explore what you cannot see below the surface of the water. We’re experts at conducting surveys and relocations of endangered species, such as mussels, within a body of water. Our divers are PADI Diving Certified.
Emergency Management Services
F&V utilizes an individual client approach to identify realistic threats, hazards, risk, and vulnerabilities, as well as evaluate and validate emergency plans, capabilities, and resources. We take the time to understand your, needs, facility, organization/agency, and the surrounding area when creating your customized solution to emergency management and planning.
