Monroe Street was a heavily traveled connector street in disrepair and needed improvement. The street was narrow with no shoulders and poor drainage. Even during minor rain events, Monroe Street would experience flooding, creating further safety concerns for the residential neighborhood.
F&V provided preliminary traffic engineering, right-of-way acquisition and construction engineering services for this Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) funded project. We designed the two-lane roadway reconstruction that included new curb and gutter, stormwater drainage outlet and intersection upgrades. We repaired and upgraded the sidewalk to meet ADA accessibility standards.
Property value in the neighborhood increased with the improved mobility and pedestrian safety, and the decrease of flooding at the intersection and residents’ homes. The City also furthered their initiative to develop safe, reliable transportation choices, as well as increase the quality of life in the community.
