Streetscapes

Village of Howard City
Howard City, MI

Project Overview

The Village of Howard City formed a Downtown Development Authority (DDA) in an effort to encourage and promote economic development, growth and revitalization but it needed ideas, plans and designs to initiate the rejuvenation.

F&V provided master plans, survey and designs along various downtown roads including Edgerton, Ensley and Shaw streets streetscapes. Improvement elements in a two-block area included decorative street lighting, new side walk, street tree planting, benches and trash receptacles to be aesthetically pleasing. Improvements also included pedestrian and vehicular safety and enhanced ADA/Universal Access to foster a more walkable community.

Howard City residents saw the improvements rejuvenate the core downtown area, creating a vibrant town and putting the “oomph” back in the small community again. The downtown streetscape project, which included big traffic calming bump-outs, is one of the best that F&V has been involved in.
