Press Release: Five new Associates, one Sr. Associate named

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Fleis & VandenBrink (F&V) announced today five new Associates and a new Senior Associate.

“It’s pretty awesome to welcome so many new Associates and one Senior Associate on our 25th anniversary,” said Paul R. Galdes, PE, F&V’s president and one of five principals. “We are very excited to see the Associate/Sr. Associate and Principal ownership program continuing with these up and coming leaders at the firm.”

Blair Selover was named Senior Associate and Matt Hosier, Elaine Venema, Steve Bishop, Chris Munson and Jeremy Patzer were named Associates. Venema and Bishop are PEs.

The changes in the leadership and ownership transition team were announced last week during the firm’s 25th annual breakfast, where company leaders – Principals, Senior Associates, Associates and several other staff – pitched in to make breakfast for more than 200 employees at eight different sites.

Selover has been group manager of the F&V Operations and Resource Management (FVOP) since joining F&V six years ago.

Hosier, who specializes in water and wastewater treatment systems, joined FVOP more than two years ago as a project manager.

Venema, a project manager in the Water Resources Group specializing in Industrial Pretreatment Programs, has been with F&V for 11 years. The Michigan Water Environment Association’s IPP Professional of the Year, also specializes in Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) capacity analysis and preliminary design, Inflow/Infiltration studies and hydraulics.

Bishop, a project manager and civil engineer, specializes in transportation and structural engineering. He has been with F&V for 19 years.

Munson joined FVOP staff more than three years ago as an operations specialist. He was promoted to project manager and traveling superintendent assisting operations staffs at various plants.

Patzer is a construction field representative. He has been with F&V since Sept. 11, 2001. Patzer specializes in construction inspection services including demolition, municipal utilities and infrastructure and MDOT work.

Selover, Venema, Bishop and Patzer work out of the company headquarters in Grand Rapids.

The Principal/Associate program was started in 2006 to promote leadership and ownership transition. F&V currently has 17 Associates, five Senior Associates, five Principals and one Principal Emeritus. Venema is the second woman Associate at F&V.

Larry Fleis, now the chairman of the FVC board of directors, and Steve Vanden Brink started the multi-discipline engineering firm in 1993 in Grand Rapids.

A growing client base enabled the firm to expand services from typical municipal road and utility work to full environmental, process, survey, design-build, water and wastewater operations, traffic, architectural, landscape architectural and even emergency management services.

Today the firm has seven offices in Michigan and two in Indiana. F&V also has two sister companies, FV Construction and FV Operations & Resources Management, Inc.

F&V started its 25th anniversary celebration on Jan. 13 with a dinner, special recognition and events at the Grand Rapids Public Museum. Nearly 300 employees and spouses attended the event.

In 2017, F&V received several local and national awards. It was named one of the “101 Best & Brightest Companies to Work For,” for the sixth time in the last seven years and Zweig Group Hot Firm, #30th in the U.S. and Canada. It also was named one of the “Best & Brightest Companies to Work For,” in the nation.

“F&V was just two civil engineers when I joined the company and today we are one of the major engineering consultants in Michigan and Indiana,” Galdes added. “And the future is bright.

“I really believe that our new leadership and employees can take this company to all new heights if they choose and continue to value the things F&V has traditionally valued – namely taking care of our employees and taking care of our clients”
