GRAND RAPIDS, MI, NOVEMBER 2013: Fleis & VandenBrink (F&V), a civil/environmental engineering and architectural firm with nine offices serving clients throughout Michigan and Indiana, is happy to announce the addition of several new employees to the firm.
John Y. Barber, PE has joined the Grand Blanc office of F&V. Barber’s expertise lies in the evaluation and design of water and wastewater projects, as well as site planning and design. With past experience that includes serving as engineer for two Michigan townships, Barber’s knowledge will be utilized in assisting F&V clients with their infrastructure needs.
Colleen Walsh recently joined the firm in its Grand Rapids office. Walsh earned a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan in 2011 and is an Engineer-in-Training. She joins the Municipal Group and specializes in water and wastewater projects and will be assisting clients with water reliability studies, SRF Project Plans and conducting sanitary and stormwater sewer inflow studies.
Jack DeRuyter has joined the firm as a compliance specialist with the Environmental Group in Grand Rapids. With over 40 years of valuable experience, DeRuyter spent the past 12 years conducting industrial storm water compliance audits for the Grand Rapids District Office of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ). He will assist F&V clients with their Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans and will conduct site inspections to assess compliance status. DeRuyter is also a certified Underground Storage Tank Class A and B operator.
Structural Engineer Susan McElheny has joined the firm and will be working out of the Grand Rapids office. McElheny earned her Bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and will be utilizing her past experience to assist with structural engineering in the Process Group and bridge projects within the Transportation Group.
Amber Jane Pontius recently earned her Bachelor’s degree from Grand Valley State University with emphasis in hydrogeology, structural geology and GIS – Earth Science Applications. She is assigned to the Environmental Group out of the firm’s Kalamazoo office and assists in monitoring environmental field assignments, evaluations of collected data and assistance in completing their related environmental reports.
