Pedestrian Bridge Construction Engineering

BRIDGE LINKS COMMUNITY

Students used to walk in the road and along the shoulders of busy Perry Road. The City of Grand Blanc decided to make a safe connection for the East Middle School students traveling to and from school to the downtown area. The path would also benefit Grand Blanc Township and other non-motorized transportation users. Construction of a pedestrian bridge was required over the Bush Drain to help with this connection.

F&V began assisting with the pedestrian bridge construction engineering back in 1996 by providing site passage alternatives. Since then, we provided cost estimating, project planning, Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) funding application preparation, MDEQ permitting and land acquisition assistance of a right-of-way from The Jewel of Grand Blanc golf course to add the pedestrian bridge. We also provided structural and construction engineering for the 110-foot long ADA accessible prefabricated bridge.

The project eliminates the need for pedestrians to use the roadway shoulders or golf cart path. The bridge provides better circulation for non-motorized transportation users and helps the City maintain its mobile and fit community image.
