Pollution Incident Prevention Plan

CLIENT’S EMPLOYEES PART OF THE SOLUTION

The Keeler Brass Company, a producer of high-end hardware, had an air pollution problem. They were faced a compliance order from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) to reduce pollution emissions.

F&V was asked to review their facility and create a Pollution Incident Prevention Plan (PIPP). We meet with all employees in small groups to foster a collaborative plan to reduce pollution. After meeting with employees, and our own review of the site, the brainstorming helped identify waste issues and a plan was designed to reduce emissions and reduce facility costs.

Although the Grand Rapids company went out of business years later, they were able to comply with the MDEQ order and did a Supplement Environmental Project (SEP). Our recommendations not only reduced emissions and production costs, they proved that everyone can make a difference when they work together. Employee involvement in the project boosted moral, and inspired and motivated their employees to take ownership.
