Project Summary
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and Federal Highway Administration require that underwater inspections be completed for those structures with water depths that prevent adequate probing of the substructure elements in the water, water depths of approximately 5-10+ feet. These structures have not previously had underwater inspections completed.
F&V provided dive inspection for three in-service bridges over the Flat River to NBIS standards in Belding. The work included performing visual and tactile inspections, scour evaluations, and streambed profiles, as well as technical reporting.
The three bridges were on Ashfield, Bridge, and Main streets.
Our reports found that the submerged substructure units of each bridge were in sound condition and are safe for continued public use.
