Project Summary
The City of Three Rivers was working to restore its downtown. With a $750,000 grant from the Michigan Economic Department Corporation Downtown Infrastructure Grant (MEDC-DIG), a project to revitalize a more updated and user-friendly park was catapulted forward to attract residents and visitors alike.
F&V assisted the City with the design and construction administration of an open-air, pass-through Mural Mall site at 68 Main Street. Improvements included removing and replacing of Mural Mall surface with landscaping and surface features. With nearly 18 feet of elevation change, F&V redesigned the entryway from the ground up, incorporating an ADA-compliant walkway. Other work included replacement of brick surfaces, LED street lighting improvements and reconfiguring the wooden stairway.
Further enhancements included:
- A rain garden
- Chess tables
- Decorative concrete paving
- Perennial gardens
- Pergola gateways
- Seating areas
- Rubberized play surfacing
This attractive, historical streetscape mural has been noted by downtown business owners as creating new energy downtown, as well a renewed source of pride to the area.
