Project Summary

The City of Big Rapids had a unique park in a residential area adjacent to the community library that had outdated playground equipment and amenities in need of repairs. The City received $150,000 from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Passport grant program to help fund the improvements.

F&V assisted the City in securing the funding and provided design and construction engineering services for the project which included a new play structure and an interactive musical/play node. The project also included a six-foot universally accessible concrete walking path connecting the parking lot, the play structures, and the existing city sidewalks to the library and the city streets.

Children in the neighborhood or participating in the library programs now have an interactive park with new benches, sidewalks, and LED lighting. The improvements have also made the park more appealing, safe and ADA accessible for years to come.
