Project Summary
Ottawa County’s Upper Macatawa Natural Area (UMNA) had 576 acres to preserve and open for recreational uses. They decided to construct a path running through the park that connects to the Fred Meijer Kenowa Trail, while also protecting the wetlands, grasslands and wildlife.
F&V provided grant writing assistance for the Michigan Department of Transportation Enhancement Program in which the County Parks Department received over $675,000 in funding. F&V prepared final design plans and provided construction for over 2.5 miles of non-motorized path.
The Upper Macatawa Greenway Trail connects to the Fred Meijer Kenowa Trail with the Lakeshore Trail along the Lake Michigan Shoreline as well as serve as a primary staging point with such amenities as parking and restroom facilities. Completion of this section helps connect lakeshore with urban centers while improving water quality, flood water storage and wildlife habitats.
