Project Summary
AuSable Charter Township officials had property owners along US-23 with old septic tanks/fields in disrepair and concerns about protecting Lake Huron. The Township received a $4.767 million USDA RD grant and $1.589 million low-interest loan for construction of 2.3 miles of sanitary sewer extensions, rehabbing two pump stations and constructing two additional lift stations.
F&V provided grant application assistance and design, bidding, and construction engineering services.
The project included construction of 10- and 12-inch sanitary sewer, 10-22 feet deep, through a high groundwater table along the Lake Huron shoreline that required extensive dewatering and directional drilling. The improvements help protect the Lake Huron waters and property owners along both sides of US-23 no longer worry about aging septic tanks/fields.
