Project Summary
The intersection of County Road 900 East and County Road 300 North in Brownsburg, Indiana, currently has a four-way stop. As residential development continues to grow in the area, the Town of Brownsburg is planning a new roundabout to improve safety and keep traffic moving efficiently. The new roundabout will be similar to the Town’s existing roundabouts at CR 300 and South Green Street and at Airport Road and Green Street.
The Town selected Fleis & VandenBrink (F&V) to lead the design. A key goal is to make the most of the space that is already available. Relocating the utility poles at the southwest corner of the intersection would be costly and could delay construction. Because the Town owns the parcel at the northeast corner, F&V is shifting the roundabout toward the northeast. This avoids the utility poles and reduces the amount of new right-of-way needed from neighboring property owners.
Drainage is another important part of the design. F&V plans to use an enclosed storm sewer that connects to the existing roadside ditches. The team will set roundabout elevations to direct stormwater into inlets. Calculations will limit how far water spreads into the travel lanes, which keeps driving conditions safe.
F&V is also working with the Town to plan how traffic will be handled during construction. Options include a full intersection closure, which shortens construction time and lowers costs. Another option is phased construction with short-term closures, which keeps more traffic moving.
The project is currently in the design phase, with construction anticipated to begin in 2027. When complete, the roundabout will provide a safer, more efficient intersection for the growing Brownsburg community.
