Downtown Road and Signal Improvements
Project Overview
F&V provided overall management including design, construction administration, and resident project representation for MDOT local agency program and CMAQ funded reconstruction of streets/sidewalks and signalization replacement along 3 blocks of Main Street in downtown DeWitt. Work included integrating bicycle lanes in Main Street, ADA sidewalk and street crossings, roadway reconstruction, street lighting and water main extension.
We also provided design services through the Lansing Board of Water and Light (LBWL) for the 12” water main extension along Main Street to provide service to businesses in the SW quadrant of the downtown district. F&V provided construction coordination during installation and worked closely with business owners for lateral connections to the new public water supply and to decommission the private wells that serviced these downtown businesses.
The City desired to bury overhead transmission and service utilities from 4 separate utility companies and F&V coordinated and facilitated the design and installation of conduits ranging from 2-6” diameter, hand-holds, and lateral service line conduits. When completed all overhead line service in the downtown corridor will be buried. The project included upgrading the current signalization at the Main/Bridge Street intersection to current standards, reconstruction of the roadway to accommodate parallel parking on both sides, bicycle lanes and 2 travel lanes, brick pavers sidewalks, and stamped concrete crosswalks. Close coordination was needed with downtown business owners which included a number of public informational meetings. Services included preliminary plan, MDOT design development, MDOT and CMAQ funding coordination, bid coordination through MDOT and construction observation and MDOT construction management.
