Traffic Signal Designs
Project Overview
The City of Royal Oak is continually growing and improving its community, which also attracts more traffic congestion. To relieve some of the traffic issues, the City applied for and received a $2.7 million grant from the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program (CMAQ) for traffic signal improvements.
F&V worked with the City to identify, study and redesign four prominent corridors, covering more than 10 miles and 36 traffic signals along 13 Mile and 11 Mile Road, Main Street and Crooks Road. Improvements will include pedestrian and vehicular actuation, signal optimizations, controller and cabinet upgrades and 14 fully-modernized signals with new mast arms. F&V will work with utility companies to determine power sources and pole uses, attend the MDOT Grade Inspection meetings and perform construction observation.
F&V assisted with the grant applications, and is currently providing design, study, survey, and construction engineering for the traffic signal improvements, which will be completed in 2020.
