- Identification and removal planning for arsenic-impacted orchard soils
- Development of Due Care Plan and ongoing compliance support
- Site prepared for productive research and technology park expansion
Project Summary
Western Michigan University (WMU) desired to expand its Business Technology and Research Park (BTR) on adjacent property it owned. But the site was a former commercial orchard operation where copper and lead arsenates had been used.
F&V was hired by WMU to perform a Phase I ESA, Phase II ESA sampling & testing and a Due Care Plan. Soil in the orchard was found to be contaminated with arsenic, which required removal before site planning could begin. We’re assisting WMU with their Due Care Obligations through the site planning process.
The expanded BTR Park will create a productive use of an underutilized and overgrown property. It will also continue the success of the first phase of the BTR Park and further push WMU into a leader of the sciences, engineering and information technologies.
